Band For Britain
Just 30 years ago there were 35,000 registered Brass Bands playing in the UK, today only 700 remain. The Dinnington Colliery Band in South Yorkshire has survived more than 100 years. It's led the villagers through two world wars, the depression, strikes and the pit closures but now it's down to just 6 members. It's facing closure, in this time of recession, when the locals need it more than ever. They're on a mission to save their band and blow hope back into their community. Step forward an unlikely savior: comedian Sue Perkins. Fresh from her triumph in BBC's Maestro she's prepared to take on an even tougher challenge. To travel up North and join forces with the indomitable Joan and Kay. Can they save Dinnington Colliery Band and take them all the way to the competition glory?
